Recovery Road was founded by Baylissa Frederick in 2006 while recovering from an intense and disabling withdrawal experience. This was as a result of taking clonazepam, a benzodiazepine prescribed for a medical condition she has, known as dystonia ( involuntary muscle contractions that cause slow repetitive movements or abnormal postures). Recovery Road was formerly known as Benzo-Wise.
Baylissa is a BACP registered mental health counselor, as well as a coach and author. Apart from her counseling practice, she delivers motivational speeches and workshops on recovery, hope and empowerment and has been interviewed and quoted by newspapers and journals including ‘The London Times’, ‘The Independent’ and the ‘British Medical Association News’. She has been a panelist and has presented keynote speeches to organizations including the British Medical Association, the Royal College of Psychiatrists, the Bristol & District Tranquilliser Project and Battle Against Tranquillisers.
She is the author of the internationally successful and favorably reviewed self-help book on the subject of withdrawal, entitled ‘Recovery and Renewal’ and the memoir, ‘With Hope in My Heart’.
